Lettuce Learn from Ms. Juanita Moore today, shall we? from Greenwood in The Great ! State ! of MISSISSIPPI ! ! She wanted to be a performer and took a part in the chorus line at the Cotton Club before becoming a film extra. Yearning to perform significant roles in plays relevant to her times, she joined with The Negro Ensemble Company as Vice President of the original Cambridge Players and took a production of The Amen Corner to The Broadway, kids. She became friends with Marlon Brando, and asked him to lend James Baldwin $75 so that he could write a play, BLUES FOR MISTER CHARLIE, loosely based on the Emmett Till murder that occurred in Money, Mississippi, before the Civil Rights Movement began. Ms. Moore was married to bus driver Charles Burris for 50 years until his death in 2001, and she lived on 13 more years 'til 10 months shy of her hundredth birthday, dying of Natural Causes. xoxo
